“Calm in a Crazy World!”

We’d love for you to join us for one of the most amazing Yoga retreats Gray Bear offers: Eight days for experienced students and teachers to dive into the deepest well of their being and reflect upon key aspects of teaching and practice. This retreat consists of two distinct parts: A weekend Teacher’s Training/Ongoing Students portion and Presence in Yoga. To find out more, keep reading....

Calm in a Crazy World!
Upekha is the 4th Brahma Vihara or heavenly abode in Buddhist lingo.   It is often translated as Equanimity or Serenity or Harmony..  It is the most powerful of these divine houses of the heart and one that we are in deep need of now as a culture and as individuals in our practice and our teaching.   This Calm Heart that loves deeply isn’t as sexy and alluring!  as Metta or Compassion or Joy and yet it is the bedrock of all of them and according to the sages an essential key to liberation on the path, and  within the moment.    Over these 10 days, we will explore living at the hub of the wheel of life, the center of this wise heart - not living as most of us do - on the rim of the wheel and being battered and bruised by circumstances and conditions.

March 29/30  -  April 1 Teachers Intensive - Balance in all its aspects!   This 3 day intensive will explore equilibrium in posture, breath and being.   We will begin with basic balance poses and lead into more advanced poses where equilibrium is required on a physical and psychic level.   Our teaching discussion and analysis will focus around cultivating a balanced and nourishing practice for ourselves and our students.  What is our role right now as teachers and serious practitioners?  How can we stay in the hub of the heart?

April 1 - 6  Presence in Yoga -    Healing our Wise Heart with Calm AND Imagination!   These 5 days we drop deep into quiet and our individual practice to restore faith in our own inner wisdom and caring for the body of the planet and our unique bodies and beings.   As usual we will use the beautiful natural surroundings of Gray Bear to let nature bring rest and rejuvenation to our spirits and look with calmer eyes and spacious heart towards a life at the hub of the heart.  We will explore the magical intuitive side to practice, using poetry, references to wise emerging voices, imagery through mandala and juicy embodied asana, meditation and breathwork.  The silence, soulful practice and the sangha will not only bring us calm in all our craziness, but will also invite possibilities and new directions for our individual paths and our engagement with this dear planet and its communities.  This retreat is partially lead in silence (ams) and allows time for self enquiry and rest in the kind of sanctuary of people and place that is so precious and so rare at this time.

Students, especially teachers are advised to do the whole retreat if possible.   By registering for this retreat, this step in itself will bring some calm right now!

Full 8 day retreat is $1,350 if paid in full by 2/25.
If paid by 2/25 the Weekend only is $485, Presence only is $900.
