"An Offering of Yoga in Silence"

Namaste. Unity. Compassion. Understanding.  Acceptance. All of these concepts share the same root. In order to have any true lasting impact; they must originate from within our deepest self.  Caring for our deepest core therefore becomes one of the clearest, cleanest  gifts we can give to ourselves as well as share with our community/society. We believe embodying these practices; silently sitting with the impact they encourage, will help to bring about the change our hearts support. We offer this retreat as a means of bringing a steadfast calm and a quiet strength to our extended community.

Silence is a powerful, simple way to open the doors to deeper perception.  Fulfillment and joy reside in each of us that is not dependent on outer circumstances.  Limiting our speech and outward stimulation while practicing yoga empowers our inner vision. This quiet space can open a path to wisdom and self awareness. It is a time-proven path.  Rather than trying to obtain the next most difficult yoga posture or technique; practicing in silence amplifies the benefits and power that our yoga practice brings home..

All can join our experience of silent Yoga in the beautiful natural setting of Gray Bear.   You will be guided, cared for and encouraged to find your inner teacher.


Our time will include:

  • Silent morning meditation
  • Sacred silence to honor our meals
  • Self guided, silent asana once daily- some general direction before class and individual assistance during practice will be provided
  • pranayama; we will practice a simple, powerful series led twice daily
  • Journaling, painting, sacred rest-find your rhythm within the space that silence creates

All interested in exploring silence are encouraged to attend. Some experience in meditation is quite helpful, but not required.

Workshop discounted at $450 if paid in full by October 1st.  Space is limited. To reserve your place please register by sending your $200 non-refundable deposit (or full payment) to: Gray Bear Lodge, PO Box 682, Hohenwald, TN 38462. Price includes tuition, lodging, meals and full use of facilities. Late registration (after Oct 1st) increases to $505 with balance due day of arrival.

We'll begin with guests arriving Sunday (5th) with 4:00 - 6:00pm arrival. Dinner is served at 6:30pm; followed by orientation and opening circle. We finish our retreat on Wednesday (8th) wit brunch and checkout at 11:00. (*) Gray Bear is a two hour drive from the Nashville airport, so please plan arrival time/ departure time with this in mind.

Chris has been a yoga teacher for over 20 years with 40 years of meditation and 30 years of hatha yoga experience.  His lifelong interest in philosophy, the outdoors, and athletics influence his teaching.  Chris teaches weekly yoga and meditation classes in Tucson, AZ, as well as workshops and teacher trainings throughout the US.  He weaves philosophy and refined experience into his classes that emphasize the importance of breathing in hatha yoga.  His concise, practical explanations and enthusiasm inspire students to deepen their own experience.

Gray Bear is home to 400 acres of rolling hills, thick forest, natural springs, and even a waterfall. You can experience the wonders of nature while sitting in a hand-built wood fire sauna; hear the silence of nature's symphony lying on a hammock while curled under a blanket; and revel in clear air and water while using shower outdoors.

With all of this nature we have some suggestions to consider when packing:

  • Working flashlight gets dark with only the light of the stars to guide you!
  • A bathing suit ... good for the hot tub, sauna, and Watsu massage pool
  • Water bottle ...Gray Bear does not use disposable cups. Purified water is available in the Main House and the Yoga Room
  • A bath robe/sarong
  • House slippers or socks to wear indoors shoes inside please
  • Comfortable walking shoes/sandals for an inspired nature hike
  • Warm clothing ...mornings & evenings can be cool
  • Comfortable clothes for exercising/yoga

Please do not bring any drugs, alcohol, or pets. Gray Bear is a non-smoking, pet-free and alcohol-free facility.
