"Bhakti Yoga Retreat"
We come together to invoke and explore the rasa
(essence) and bhava (feeling) of Devotion through
meditation, pranayama, and vinyasa flow. We will
immerse ourselves in kirtan (the ecstatic singing
and chanting of the Divine name), as well as playing
with our inner rhythms through sound, movement
& dance. The sacred ground of Gray Bear Yoga
Retreat Center will help us connect & harmonize,
internally and externally, with the natural elements.
Gray Bear offers a wood fired sauna with a spring
fed cold plunge, a natural stone hot tub, a watsu
pool, exquisite waterfalls, and delectable vegetarian
cuisine. It is an honor and a privilege to gather there.
Amy Barnes is a seasoned yoga instructor
who has been practicing for over 30 years and
teaching for more than 20. Amy’s most influen-
tial yoga teachers are Julie Russell (mom), June
Lasalvia, erich schiffman, Gayna Uransky,
Richard Freeman, sharon Gannon, David
Life, and shiva Rea. Her kirtan teachers are
Great mother Goddess, Jai Uttal, & Dave
stringer. Amy teaches vinyasa yoga classes at
www.12southyoga.com and www.sanctuary
foryoga.com in nashville. she currently leads a nashville kirtan band
called samavayah.
Thomas Anderson, M.A. is a student,
teacher and artist of physics, sound and
healing. Through the drum and other ancient
instruments, he will lead us into the mystery
of rhythm and its crucial role in devoted
surrender. Thomas is a gifted musician who
plays in the tribal percussion duo Rhythmystik,
and is a treasured member of the kirtan band samavayah.
"Amy Barnes' yoga class has changed the way I am in my body. I leave her class a little larger each week. I feel like Amy is part healer, part minister, and fully yoga teacher. I would drive from two counties away to experience her healing touch during savasana."
